I found a book titled “Daily Painting ” by Carol Marine that caught my interest.
I have attempted painting several times in my life…. first when I was a pre-teen and a close family friend mentored me as she painted in oils. Second in high school by a art teacher that challenged me and encouraged me along. I continued for a while after school but life got in the way. Latter with grown kids , my earlier mentioned family friend sent me a book on watercolor and life had opened for to me to attempt painting again. The only problem was me seeing that I needed to paint for fun… not to accomplish something! But I think due to economics of life I felt like I was wasting time and money unless it all had a purpose. So after a while I replaced painting with knitting… another love of mine. But arthritis in my hands has made the knitting not as fun as it had been.
So, now I’m back to that book…. just looking at the enjoyment of “small” paintings. For me it’s quick satisfying projects for my mind ( 6 x 6 inch to be exact). A comment made in the book is to ” give myself permission to paint on my own terms” and that’s exactly what I needed. I’ve now carved out a corner of my life , and living room, for painting in acrylics. It seemed like what I needed was something that would dry easily yet let me feel the density I missed in doing watercolors. I also got myself one of those beautiful table top wooden easels with a drawer for my tubes of paint as a treat and other needed supplies.
So now starts my next attempted at not “just painting” but enjoying the process…………
You may ask…….why the blog? Well just like my travel notes I have posted, I like having a central place I can refer to them all…. so it’s for me. And if you like to peek in now and then , great
