For the month of November I participated in classes with East coast artist Chris Kolupski ( see www.chriskolupski.com) . His pre-recorded video classes are separate projects sent out weekly throughout the month. At the end of each week there is a Zoom meet up where Chris reviews and critiques the pictures of our paintings we email to him.
Classes are a mix of either studio and plein air instruction of a subject from start to finish. Chris is a great teacher, and very enjoyable to follow along with in each project. Following are my paintings from these informative classes.
Week #1- This class was a Plein air video class. Videoed on-site in a field of yellow. My goal with doing these classes is to loosen up and this class was perfect for that, although after now finishing all 4 classes I can see this first painting is still to tight but has parts that I got looser.
Week #2 – This class was videoed in studio. At first , from looking at the photo’s provided, I was really overwhelmed with the amount of scenery. But with viewing the class I realized this was exactly what I needed. I needed to simplify and identify my planes I was going to paint 🎨. I also found that Chris’s way of mixing his colors and listening to him break down the colors really helped me. So in the end this was my favorite paint!
Week #3 – This weeks class was also a studio class. It was a study of clouds. Chris had sent several reference photo’s and I ended up picking the one he didn’t paint in his video. Also I went even further with my differences by creating my own land mass with road to emphasize distance. So I guess you could say I got creative with this one.
Week #4 – I’ve never even thought of painting the desert! This again was different than I normally would do and I think a really good exercise for me. This video class was plein air and very enjoyable to paint along with.
